New processes and workflows for digital journalism teams
I would like this workshop to be conversational and interactive, with some time allotted to break into smaller groups and brainstorm/sketch ideas. My topic is how to create a new innovative digital journalism team from the ground up, and I'll kick things off based on what I've learned doing just that over the past year for Condé Nast Int'l, specifically Vogue, working with teams both internally and in 11 different countries around the world.

Design/Build: A new take on the trending articles widget using Facebook reactions data.
This will be a design and build workshop that re-imagines the trending articles widget common on many websites today (sidebar right) using facebook reactions data. To kick things offs, we will do a quick overview of the CrowdTangle API, then we will set up a live feed of your website’s content sorted by Facebook reactions (like, love, angry, haha, wow, sad) and/or with Twitter data. After that, you will dive into designing and building your widget.

Selling New Ideas in Old Newsrooms / Vendiendo nuevas ideas en viejas redacciones
Innovation has many enemies in a newsroom. The job of reporting the day's news is a tough one. Budgets are always tight. Technology changes all the time. How can frazzled senior managers know which idea is the best one to pick? In this session, we'll go over strategies to structure and pitch a new idea within a newsroom: a new software tool, an app, a section, a blog. Then, we'll break into groups to start sketching out the idea, and we'll finish by presenting ideas to the room. Ideas created here could be refined further — or built out — during the hackathaon.

Breaking walls & shaping worlds for immersive web
The emergence of AR requires content creators to think about its new interactive dimensions and possibilities. Now, thanks to the tools provided by Apple iOS 11 and AR.JS, this new language is coming to the web, and it’s time to take a deep breath and go further into the realm of immersive storytelling. During this session you’ll learn how to prototype your own interactive AR experience using both the web tools you already know and the latest innovations from the industry. What are the new challenges posed by web AR technologies and which tools can we use to tackle them? Why is creating augmented experiences different from producing other web content? How can we create functional interactions to make augmentation relevant?

Using Huginn for Easy and Powerful Open-Source Web Automation
http://albertsun.github.io/huginn-newsroom-scenarios/ Huginn is a system for building agents that can automate many common web tasks. Think of it as an open source, more flexible version of IFTTT or a successor to Yahoo Pipes. It can let users quickly create simple bots or schedule and repeat routine tasks. The workshop will walk people through creating a few simple workflows for basic tasks in Huginn, and then brainstorm other tasks they may want to automate and provide tutoring on how to do those. At the end, can switch into how to deploy Huginn on participant's own machines and contribute code.
