Cómo puede la tecnología facilitar la investigación a través de las fronteras / How technology can facilitate cross-border investigations
For the past two years, I've been working with a trans-national network of investigative reporters that investigate corruption and organised crime. We've been working to create platforms that improve the cooperation of our reporters, make it easier to share knowledge and use large amounts of data effectively. I'll present some of the challenges we're facing, and the tools and practices that we've adopted.

Reiniciando 100+ años de la marca Vogue: oportunidades y desafíos / Rebooting 100+ years of global Vogue: chances & challenges
I joined a new digital team at Condé Nast International a year ago, tasked with strategizing & modernizing business practices, editorial processes and journalistic output for all titles. It's a rewarding and ambitious mission, one that has given me many opportunities to take chances on new storytelling formats while also grow professionally... and yes, personally. I'll be talking about what I've learned over the past year.

Indicadores de Credibilidad Abiertos / Open Credibility Indicators
Could we build dispute mechanisms into the fabric of the web? Meedan is leading an initiative called the Credibility Indicators Working Group which is a consortium of media, platform, and standards bodies representatives. How did we get here? Meedan began as a crowdsourced translation project. Way back in 2003, we thought that the most promising angle for promoting peace was going to be the web. We imagined social networks collaborating to share translated media and interfaces that would enable cross-lingual media browsing and interaction. Having a team in Cairo, we found ourselves curating and translating a lot of real-time media during the revolutions. Pretty quickly we arrived as two strong conclusions: 1. with the rise of mobiles UGC was only going to become more central to the way we view and understand our world; and 2. the same 'annotation' layer that we were using to generate translations on top of this content could also serve to provide needed verification and context for a medium (UGC) so well suited to creating and distributing unattributed misinformation. This last year has been quite a remarkable time to be working in media verification. The rise of misinformation has confirmed of our long-held belief that the web - esp the social web - needs better methods for attaching and transporting context to newsworthy UGC. But for open web advocates this year has also caused us deeply question our web optimism - we did not imagine the web could or would arrive at such a place where the most open of our social platforms - Twitter - is used more effectively by demagogues than by the journalists who have historically called this network their home turf. This talk will present some ideas related to the framing of our effort to structurally address misinformation without burning down the open web.

In this talk, we'll introduce the CrowdTangle tool and its available API endpoints which can be used for for rapid prototyping (and production-ready products). We will spotlight projects built using these API endpoints during recent Facebook Journalism Project (FJB) Hackathons — including a news messenger bot and a tool which visualizes stories on a trustworthy and ideological spectrum. We hope this provides inspiration for the Media Party Hackathon.

Krik: Un emprendimento pionero en Serbia - bases de datos de valiosos políticos serbios / A pioneering venture in Serbia - database of assets of Serbian politicians
We created the most comprehensive online database of assets of Serbian politicians, which currently consists of property cards of all ministers of Serbian government and all Serbian presidential candidates running in 2017 Elections. The database was launched to help Serbian citizens to better understand who are the people running their country and promote greater transparency. Each profile (property card) contains information about apartments, houses, cars, companies of current ministers and presidential candidates, and details about how they came to possess them. The database provides information on which of these politicians had been building without permits or own illegal buildings. There’s also data about their credit, leases, and about people with whom they’ve collaborated and committed offenses. The information within the profiles are based on official documents. The database has contributed to higher government transparency and now, Serbian citizens are familiar with information that politicians were otherwise trying to hide from them or was not easily available to them. While working on this project journalists were exposed to pressure and sabotage. Some state institutions violated the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and refused to provide us with data. Our journalists were monitored and recorded on mobile phones by different unknown persons. KRIK has been the target of several media attacks by the pro-government tabloids and other media close to the government and criminal circles. The database was awarded by Data Journalism Award 2017 in the Open Data category.
