-------- A whole new and ambitious project kicked off last April in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso: the creation of a investigative network to develop data-based cross-border investigations in West Africa focusing on 4 major topics: terrorism, human rights violations, organised crime and corruption. With more than 40 journalist across the region, the project Cell Norbert Zongo for Investigative Journalism in West Africa aims not just to develop cross border stories but to strengthen the capacities of journalist in data journalism, financial flows and digital security. In almost all countries, anti-corruption structures have been put in place. But it is mainly investigative journalists who, through their investigative work and in-depth research, bring to light certain practices contrary to the orthodoxy of public management. However, investigative journalism in most West African countries is the choice of a fighter, having to confront too many treacherous dangers. Access to sources of information, insufficient financial and human resources, permanent insecurity for journalists who sometimes risk their lives by working on stories bothering too powerful networks, are all bottlenecks affecting investigative journalism. Is under this context that the network has been created, we are putting all our effort to contribute to a whole new chapter for data and investigative journalism in the region.

---------------- The objective would be to introduce the participants to the project and share with them the experiences, the challenges and the goals for the upcoming two years. Organised crime networks also work across regions, we believe it's possible to explore possibilities of investigations with fellow investigative journalist across Latin America or other regions.
